Our community

Whether through financial contributions, grants, in-kind donations or scholarships, GCI has a long history of supporting the causes and organizations that serve its customers. Scholarships for Alaska Students

Over the past 20 years, GCI has provided more than $6 million in scholarship to Alaska students. As part of its effort to help cultivate Alaska’s next generation of leaders, GCI has committed $100,000 to the next round of its statewide scholarship program. Fifty students will each receive a $2,000 scholarship for the 2019-20 academic year. Funds from the GCI Scholarship Program can be used for tuition and books.

Special Olympics Endowment

GCI, Special Olympics Alaska and the Alaska Community Foundation completed a successful fundraising effort to jumpstart an endowment in honor of Jim Balamaci, the late president and CEO of Special Olympics Alaska. The initial $1 million goal ultimately resulted in $2 million being pledged. Additionally, Balamaci’s nearly four decades of dedication to the athletes and community he loved so much is commemorated through the official dedication of the Special Olympics Alaska Jim Balamaci Training Center.
